Affordable No-Makeup Makeup for Weekends | Blogtober 2017

We all know, that wearing layers of makeup isn’t the most comfortable feeling on earth. Moreover, our skin hates it too! If I could travel back in time and meet my 15 years old me, I’d tell me “Please don’t wear too much foundation, because a) your skin gets even worse and b) dry concealer over spot marks enhances them, and don’t cover them up!” Nearly five years later, I know that giving my skin time to breath and recover is one of the most important thing, if you want good skin. Therefore, I moisturise my skin at least two times a day and try to have no-makeup days as often as possible – especially on the weekends.
That’s all well and good, but what happens if I meet my family on weekends, go shopping, or go out with my friends for a coffee? Of course, there’re some occasions where I simply don’t care and show up with a bare face. But there’re also get-togethers where I want to look and feel nice with a really low-key makeup, so I don’t look like I haven’t slept for three weeks and plucked out all my eyelashes.

Some of you may know, that I go to university in Vienna, which is approximately 200km away from my hometown. Since, I only spend my weekends at home, I have all my good makeup in my flat in Vienna and just a few bits at my actual home in Styria. These few products at home are great for the minimal no-makeup makeup, and they’re all from the drugstore, since I didn’t want to spend a lot of money on things that I very rarely use. But now, on to the actual products!

The most important thing during the weekends is my moisturiser. However, this is a post about no-makeup makeup, so why do I mention a skincare product? Well, obviously it’s a crucial product, since I use it, when I go totally bare, but there’s a second reason. I like to mix in my foundation to kinda create a tinted moisturiser. I don’t know if every foundation works with every cream, but my products are a little dream team. So, my moisturiser is from bebe and it’s their moisturiser for normal skin. I really like products form bebe, especially their body lotions because they smell SOOO good, sink in very quickly and are very reasonably priced. This also applies to the moistuiser – TBH, I’m always a bit sceptical, when it comes to cheap skincare, but this cream really does its job without breaking me out, so it’s actually a really good product if you’re on a budget but want a good moisturiser!

Besides that, I also have the same concerns about drugstore foundations, even though I know there’re a lot out there, which are really good. The one I picked up, is from Catrice and it’s the 12h MattMouse Makeup, and I only bought this one because the mousy texture feels soo creamy and dusty and crazy – I can’t explain it but love it! This foundation is proof, that you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover, because on the packaging it says ‘powdery matt finish’. Is there anybody out there, who do NOT think that this sounds like a really ugly finish? I mean, does anybody want a powdery finish? I def don’t and therefore I’m very grateful, that this foundation doesn’t look on my skin as it should! It really evens out my skin, so it looks pretty flawless, but I think that you shouldn’t use a lot, because it actually might get powdery -egh. However, since I don’t want to wear a lot of makeup anyway, it’s good for my purpose – especially since it covers up my undereye circles very well. And in combination with my moisturiser, it’s actually a bit dewy, which I really like.

So, the final product for my no-makeup makeup is a mascara. Even though, my hair is quite blond, my lashes and eyebrows are pretty dark, which is great. To give my lashes a little lift and support, I like to use a mascara, because although there’re pretty long and dark, they don’t curl naturally. At the moment, I’m using the Get Big Lashes Mascara from essence, which I honestly don’t like at all. Don’t get me wrong, when I apply it, I really like the finish of my lashes, because there’re all separated and look naturally. However, this mascara doesn’t hold the curl at all! And since this is the only reason why I wear mascara, it’s a bit of a disappointment. During writing this, I thought “if I only need a bit of a curl, why do I don’t use an eyelash curler?” And I really think that this might be the solution to my probs, so I’m going to get one as soon as possible. This also means even less makeup, so yeeey!
